Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Samuel Aboabire claims under-pressure Black Stars coach, Otto Addo is doing a good job.

Addo, 47, who was reappointed in March 2024 on a three-year deal with an option of a two-year deal has come under serious criticism with some fans calling for his dismissal after failing to guide the senior national team to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The Black Stars after six matches played finished at the bottom of Group F with three points having recorded three defeats and three draws in a group comprised of Angola, Sudan and Niger.

This means for the first time in two decades, the four-time African champions will not compete at the AFCON tournament which is scheduled to be hosted in Morocco next year.

Despite the poor performances of the senior national team, Aboabire in an interview with Accra-based Onua TV claims Otto Addo has done incredibly well since his return as the Black Stars tactician.

“Otto Addo is doing well as the Black Stars coach just that goal-scoring has been the team’s problem,” he said.

Following the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON, the Executive Council of the GFA held a marathon meeting with Otto Addo to review his technical reports.

However, a decision is expected to be made after engagements with stakeholders but multiple reports in the local media suggest that Otto Addo will keep his job as Black Stars.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars will hope to put up an improved performance when they take on Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March later this year.
