The future of Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey at Arsenal is in serious doubt after the club intensified its interest in Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi.
Partey’s contract with Arsenal expires in the summer, and there have been no substantial talks regarding a renewal. Reports suggest the Gunners are now pursuing a deal to sign Zubimendi in the summer.
The 31-year-old Partey, whose contract is in its final six months, remains fit and has featured in 19 of Arsenal’s 20 Premier League games this season.
However, concerns persist over his injury record, with several clubs reportedly interested in him as he awaits Arsenal’s decision.
Mikel Arteta has been a driving force behind Arsenal’s pursuit of Zubimendi, with interest in the midfielder reignited during negotiations with Real Sociedad over the signing of Mikel Merino in August.
Liverpool had also shown interest in Zubimendi last summer, with the club initially believing the player was open to a move. However, Zubimendi ultimately opted against a transfer to Anfield.
Arsenal’s pursuit of the Spaniard comes as both Partey and Jorginho have contracts set to expire at the end of the season.
Zubimendi, a product of Real Sociedad’s academy, has made 210 appearances for his boyhood club since his debut in 2019. This season, he has made 22 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal.
