Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member Nana Oduro Sarfo has called on Ghanaians to shift their focus from immediate trophies to rebuilding the Black Stars, acknowledging the team’s current struggles.

It has been 42 years since Ghana won the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title, and the team has failed to remain competitive in recent years.

The Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON, finishing bottom of their qualifying group without a win, underscores their struggles.

Additionally, Ghana has not advanced past the group stage in any major tournament since the 2019 AFCON.

Sarfo, reflecting on the team’s current situation, stressed the importance of long-term development over short-term success. He urged Ghanaians to let go of the expectation for immediate glory and focus on rebuilding the national team from the ground up.

“I have told you that all that goes up, comes down. Ghana is living on past glory,” Sarfo told Accra-based Asempa FM.

“We have to think about rebuilding. We need to focus on rebuilding, and if you are rebuilding, you have to forget about trophies.

“Forget about immediate glory and give yourself time to rebuild the national team, but all of us want quick results for just today. We are not thinking about rebuilding.”
