Otto Addo, head coach of the Ghana national football team, has received strong support from Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member Nana Oduro Sarfo, despite recent challenges.
Addo is in a solid position to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, sitting joint top in the qualifying group alongside Comoros, with encouraging results from the ongoing campaign.
This follows his success in securing Ghana’s place in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, a significant achievement for the coach.
However, Addo’s tenure has faced hurdles. While his World Cup qualification stands as a high point, the Black Stars have struggled in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification, failing to secure a spot for the 2025 tournament.
Despite this setback, Oduro Sarfo defended the coach, questioning the harsh criticism directed at him.
“Someone was also saying that he is not a top coach. Who is a top coach? A coach who has qualified the national team for the World Cup is not a top coach?” Sarfo told Accra-based Asempa FM.
“Of course, it’s just two matches, but another Mourinho could have lost.”
Despite these remarks, Otto Addo’s future as Black Stars coach remains uncertain following the failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON, with the Ghana Football Association yet to make a decision on his position.
