Former Ghana assistant coach, George Boateng has recounted his experience after playing a major role in the country’s qualification to the 2022 World Cup.
After a disappointing performance at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon, the Black Stars were paired with sworn rivals, Nigeria in the playoffs of the World Cup.
The first leg staged at the Baba Yara Stadium ended goalless. However, the return leg at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja also ended 1-1.
Ghana then qualified for the global showpiece staged in Qatar on the away goal rule.
Recounting his experience, Boateng, who worked with Otto Addo as head coach, Didi Dramani as second assistant coach and Chris Hughton as technical advisor said, “We qualified for the World Cup 2022 in Qatar, it was unbelievable for me as a coach to be in the World Cup,” he told Tribal Football.
“I really enjoyed that experience and it made me realize why people speak so highly about tournaments like the World Cup,” he added.
At the tournament, Ghana recorded a win against South Korea and two defeats against Portugal and Uruguay.
