The Chairman of the National Peace Council (NPC) has said that he is hopeful the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will sign the 2024 peace pact.
According to him, the demands made by the NDC are not ones that should cause a spin as it expects to meet the leadership of the party to reach a consensus.
Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu Gyamfi, said the party’s grievances will be addressed.
“The NDC has not stated categorically that they won’t sign. There is still hope.”
“They’ve given out some grievances. We will meet with them; we will talk about those things, and we will resolve them,” he told journalists on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
The NDC on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 itemized six conditions that they want to be addressed before they consider signing the peace pact.
The party has maintained that there were no tangible outcomes from similar agreements in the past; hence, their hesitation to sign this year’s document.
Responding to these, Rev. Dr. Adu Gyamfi noted that some of the conditions are beyond the Council’s mandate.
“Some of them [NDC conditions] are not within our control and there’s nothing that the Peace Council itself can do,” he said.
