A farmer, Mahamud, has been arrested for the murder of his four-month pregnant wife, Barikisu, at Frimpongkrom in the Dormaa West District of the Bono Region.

The tragic incident occurred on Monday, June 16, 2025.

Information gathered from neighbours indicates that Barikisu had long suffered domestic abuse at the hands of her husband.

In the days leading up to the incident, she reportedly confided in their landlord and his wife about her intention to return to her hometown in Northern Ghana due to the persistent maltreatment.

Following the act, Mahamud fled the scene and is believed to have crossed the border into Ivory Coast.

However, he was later apprehended by some civilians near the Ghana–Ivory Coast border and subsequently handed over to the Ivorian police to assist with ongoing investigations.

The gruesome incident has left the entire community in shock, with many struggling to comprehend the motive behind such a brutal act.

The case has since been transferred to the appropriate authorities for further investigation, as residents call for justice for the slain woman and her unborn baby.
