The 17-year-old midfielder, who has previously undergone trials with Chelsea and made his debut for Red Bull Salzburg, has also represented Ghana at the U-17 level.

Viking’s sporting director, Erik Nevland, confirmed that Ganiwu will train with the club for a week, arriving towards the end of their stay in Spain.

The midfielder is currently registered with Legon Cities FC, in Ghana’s top division, where he has made six league appearances.

Despite the club’s limited knowledge about the player, they were recommended to him through trusted contacts.

Head coach Morten Jensen admitted that he has never seen Ganiwu play but is open to assessing his potential.

Viking FK has a history of trialling African players with mixed success.

Notable past signings include Samuel Adegbenro and Suleiman Abdullahi, who made a significant impact after impressing during their trials.

Viking’s squad is in Spain for their second training camp of the season, which runs until February 23.

During their stay, they will play matches against Norwegian rivals Brann and Valerenga.

Whether Ganiwu earns a contract remains uncertain, but this opportunity could be a pivotal step in his career.
