Desmond Ofei believes the re-constituted Black Stars technical team will swiftly improve the fortunes of the senior national team.

The Ghana U20 coach was appointed two weeks ago as one of two assistant coaches to the senior national team

Experienced German trainer Wilfred Schafer, an AFCON winner with Cameroon in 2002, has been hired as technical director.

This was the response by the Ghana Football Association after the Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Ofei told Citi Sports: ”We have a lot of work to do we but I think we’re in a good position to qualify the team to the World Cup and everybody’s hungry.

‘‘Everybody’s really hungry and we have a new head of video analyst, we have a psychologist or sports mental coach as you want to call it, so I feel like everybody’s hungry to make sure that we qualify to the World Cup.’’

The Black Stars next competitive matches will be against Chad and Madagascar in March in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
