Minister designated for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams has hinted that the appointment made by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) onto the Black Stars technical team will be reviewed.
The technical team of the senior national team has been beefed up ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers which resume in March later this year after failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in two decades under the guidance of Otto Addo.
The new faces in the technical team include German gaffer, Winfried Schaffer as the technical advisor and football director for the Black Stars and the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Additionally, Desmond Offei, the current head coach of Ghana’s U20 team, has been promoted to the Black Stars’ technical bench as an assistant coach, replacing German Joseph Laumann.
Offei will join assistants John Paintsil and Fatawu Dauda, who will continue in their roles under Otto Addo.
Kris Perquy will serve as the team’s psychologist, while Gregory De Grauwe will take on the role of video analyst.
Despite the announcement, Mr Adams speaking in an interview said that the decision to announce members onto the technical team will be reviewed for good reasons.
“We will review the GFA’s new appointment onto the Black Stars technical team,” he told Sporty FM.
“This will be my first engagement with the GFA. Can we get a cheaper option than Winfried Schaffer, can we pay him less or does his contract allow for a review?
“We will look at all that,” he added.
After failing to qualify for the AFCON, Otto Addo, who signed a three-year deal with an option of a year deal came under massive pressure but the Executive Council of the GFA has decided to retain him as the head coach of the Black Stars.
