Former Ghana international, Augustine Ahinful has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to further explain the role of Stephen Appiah on the newly formed Black Stars Management Committee.
The GFA on Saturday, January 18 announced a newly constituted Management Committee for the senior national team following the dissolution of the Mark Addo-led committee following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
In the statement by the GFA, Appiah, who is famously remembered for leading the team to qualify for the country’s maiden World Cup appearance in Germany has been named as the Vice Chairman of the committee, while he will also focus on player relations.
However, Ahinful believes the role of player relations must be further explained by the Ghana FA.
“I think that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) must explain further what they mean by player relations because the best relations are when the coach interacts with the players daily to know how they are doing,” he told Sporty FM.
“I believe they have noticed something within the team so they need somebody like Stephen Appiah to come on board to have that interaction with the players in a brotherly way to bring the players in line and how the GFA want things to be done,” he added.
Other members of the newly formed Management Committee include Dr Randy Abbey as the Chairman who will lead engagement with government and other stakeholders. Samuel Aboabire, Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Football Association and an Executive Council member of the GFA and Moses Armah, President of Medeama Sporting Club.
Both Aboabire and Armah shall be responsible for operations and matchday activities while ensuring that the interests of Sponsors, Partners and other Collaborators are well taken care of. Richard Nsenkyire, President of FC Samartex 1996 is a member responsible for special duties.
