Heart of Lions head coach, Bashir Hayford, has expressed his openness to taking on the role of coaching Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars.

Hayford’s interest in the job comes at a time when the Black Stars are struggling, having failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)

The veteran coach believes he has the necessary capabilities to coach the Black Stars.

“Why do you ask? What does it take to coach the Black Stars? Everything shows I can do the job. So if you see competence in me, give it to me; if you don’t see any competence, don’t give it to me,” he said on Asempa FM.

The Black Stars will play against Chad in March 2025 in the 2026 World Cup qualifier, and Hayford’s interest in the job could be a potential option for the Ghana Football Association in the future.

The team is hoping to bounce back from their recent poor performances, including a disappointing bottom-place finish in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
