The President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, has revealed that some youth national teams are paid monthly salaries because they are on permanent contracts.
However, he admitted that some are not paid monthly salaries because they are not employed permanently, particularly youth national team coaches.
Kurt Okraku made these remarks when he appeared before the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports to address the petition presented by the leaders of the Save Ghana Football Demonstration.
“In recent years, there has been a lot of outcry for coaches to be put on permanent contracts.
“We have a blend of coaches who are on permanent contracts and coaches who are on performance or tournament-related contracts. That is the system we run.”
The issue of youth national team coaches not receiving monthly salaries is age-old.
During his appearance before the same committee last week, former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah stated that this situation makes youth national team coaches more susceptible to influence from agents in exchange for call-ups for their players.
