Farmers in Sehwi Boako have staged a protest demanding immediate action against illegal mining activities encroaching on their agricultural lands within the Wiawso Municipality.

The protest, which drew many farmers and community members, underscored the urgent need to protect agricultural lands from the destructive impacts of unauthorized mining operations.

Carrying signs and chanting slogans, the farmers marched through the farming communities of Aprompe and others, voicing their grievances over the devastation that galamsey activities have caused in surrounding areas.

They expressed fear that their livelihoods, which depend on crops such as cocoa, cassava, and maize, would be threatened if illegal miners continue to encroach upon their farmland.

Additionally, they raised concerns about the contamination of water sources, noting that chemicals from mining often pollute nearby rivers and streams, affecting both irrigation and drinking water.

They continued to appeal to the Ghana Cocoa Board and other stakeholders to urgently address their situation.
