West Ham United forward Mohammed Kudus has called on his teammates to raise their performance levels following their 1-1 draw against Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday.
The Hammers have endured a challenging season, resulting in the dismissal of Julen Lopetegui after just 20 games in charge. With Graham Potter now at the helm, Kudus acknowledged the difficulties of adapting to a new manager but stressed the need for the squad to improve.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the 24-year-old admitted that managerial changes bring tactical adjustments, making it crucial for players to adapt quickly.
“It’s always difficult when a new manager comes in,” Kudus said. “Each coach has their own philosophy and expectations. Manager A may want you to play a certain way, while Manager B has a completely different approach. The challenge is how fast you can adjust mentally and implement those changes on the pitch.”
Despite the uncertainties, Kudus emphasized that players must focus on what they can control—work ethic, intensity, and determination.
“We don’t decide who the club appoints as manager, but we do control our energy, effort, and passion. Regardless of who is in charge, you can always give 100%, track back, push forward, and fight for the team,” he added.
Kudus also highlighted the importance of unity and responsibility within the squad.
“We are all leaders on the pitch, whether we wear the captain’s armband or not. Even the players on the bench have a role to play in supporting their teammates and being ready to make an impact. Some games have been changed by substitutes coming on and making a difference.”
Looking ahead, West Ham faces a tough test against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League next Monday. The Hammers will be aiming to build momentum under Potter’s leadership and turn their season around.
