This recall has indeed been triggered by the NPP majority and it is to enable them to fast-track tax giveaways to their crony businesses,\u201d he claimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Read also:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/speaker-accuses-majority-of-bad-faith-over-parliament-recall-for-emergency\/\">Speaker accuses Majority of bad faith over Parliament recall for emergency<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking on the floor on September 3, Dr. Ato Forson insisted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs are opposed to these tax exemptions, arguing that they do not serve the best interests of ordinary Ghanaians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He called for these exemptions to be converted into tax credits or linked to equity shares as stipulated in the Tax Exemption Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe will not support the giveaway of over $350 million to crony businesses in a very opaque and untransparent manner,\u201d he maintained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"636\" height=\"424\" src=\"https:\/\/uwordpressmedia.blob.core.windows.net\/uwordpressmedia01\/2024\/09\/ato-forson-in-parliament-1-2048x1366-1-636x424-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4474\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uwordpressmedia.blob.core.windows.net\/uwordpressmedia01\/2024\/09\/ato-forson-in-parliament-1-2048x1366-1-636x424-1.jpg 636w, https:\/\/uwordpressmedia.blob.core.windows.net\/uwordpressmedia01\/2024\/09\/ato-forson-in-parliament-1-2048x1366-1-636x424-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In response, Majority Leader Afenyo-Markin refuted Dr. Forson\u2019s claims, arguing that they are unfounded and not backed by facts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/uwordpressmedia.blob.core.windows.net\/uwordpressmedia01\/2024\/09\/WhatsApp-Ptt-2024-09-03-at-11.27.19-AM.ogg\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>According to him, the Minority Leader&#8217;s comments would rather discourage investors and give uncertainty to the business environment which will affect the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He therefore urged the Minority to loosen up and support the tax emptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI encourage the Minority to support the tax exemptions programme. The finance committee throughout the recess has been working hard to scrutinise these applications.
