On Aug. 21, the Peacemaker<\/em> actor John Cena opened up on the Club Shay Shay<\/em><\/a> podcast about why he\u2019s choosing to remain childless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want them,\u201d John said. \u201cI have a certain curiosity about life, and I also know the investment that it takes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd my biggest fear is, as someone who\u2019s driven \u2014 many times stubborn and selfish \u2014 I try to approach the world with kindness and curiosity, but I don\u2019t think I\u2019m personally ready, nor will I ever be, to invest the time it needs to be a great parent because I want to live life for all it is.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd I still have a lot to do. And I still want to do a lot. I have a wonderful partner I do it with. We\u2019ve had open conversations about this. We share the same values.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John has been married to Shay Shariatzadeh since 2020, and they had conversations about not having children early in their relationship, a topic that has impacted his past relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John\u2019s previous six-year relationship with fellow WWE star Nikki Bella<\/a> ended after she opened up about her desire for children and John\u2019s almost reluctant compromise. On the Better Together with Maria Menounos<\/em><\/a> podcast, Nikki said she didn\u2019t want him to \u201cregret\u201d having children with her. \u201cEven in the end when he was willing to give me kids, I could just tell it\u2019s not what we wanted. And that\u2019s really, like, you know, what pushed me in the end, was like, if I\u2019m going to force someone to be a father.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John\u2019s fully aware that being candid about not wanting kids is a \u201ctough subject\u201d and that the mere mention of the topic \u201cimmediately puts you in a category\u201d and that people \u201ccan\u2019t help but judge.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c[It\u2019s] human nature. We\u2019re all judgmental. I\u2019d like to believe that I operate under the construct that everyone\u2019s okay living their life,\u201d John said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John\u2019s decision doesn\u2019t come lightly, and he\u2019s thought about it since he was a teenager. \u201cI can tell you this is not a knee-jerk reaction. I thought long and hard about this,\u201d John said. \u201cMy opinions only hit that gray area during emotionally difficult times.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Shannon Sharpe<\/a> asked how this tough conversation with his wife went, John noted that he \u201clearned from every scenario\u201d and \u201clearned from his past.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhenever one of us is feeling bothered, nothing\u2019s off the table. Of course, nobody\u2019s perfect. We have our disagreements, but we handle them right then and there, and nothing is too uncomfortable to be unapproachable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
