Dr. Kwame Nkrumah<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

President\u00a0Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo<\/a>\u00a0has praised Ghana\u2019s first President, the late Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, for constructing the Accra-Tema Motorway.

Akufo-Addo said that the motorway, which was constructed in 1965, has been a vital part of Ghana\u2019s transport sector for over six decades.

The president, who made these remarks after cutting the sod for the commencement of work on the reconstruction of the Accra-Tema Motorway Expansion Project, indicated that the expansion of the motorway is a continuation of the legacy of Ghana\u2019s first president.

\u201cThis project marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to modernise Ghana\u2019s infrastructure and ensure that our nation remains competitive in the 21st century. Originally commissioned in 1965 by our first President, Kwame Nkrumah, the Accra-Tema Motorway has been a vital artery for nearly six decades, carrying an average of 45,000 vehicles daily.

\u201cNow, the time has come to renew this legacy and ensure it continues to serve the people of Ghana for generations to come,\u201d Akufo-Addo wrote in a post shared on Facebook on August 27, 2024.

President Akufo-Addo touted the expansion of the motorway, which he indicated would be done through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

He said that the project would be done in three phases and would extend from the Takoradi-Agona Junction Road with funding from the government of Ghana and the African Development Bank.

\u201cThe Accra-Tema Motorway Expansion Project is a pioneering initiative, being the first Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in the history of Ghana\u2019s road infrastructure. By bringing together the expertise and resources of both the public and private sectors, with the strategic backing of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), we are setting a new standard for infrastructure development in our country. This PPP model will ensure efficiency, sustainability, and fiscal responsibility, delivering world-class infrastructure while protecting the interests of the Ghanaian people.

\u201cThis project is being executed in three sections, with the first phase covering the Accra-Tema Motorway Roundabout to the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange. This section is crucial for enhancing connectivity and stimulating economic growth. Alongside this, my government is actively advancing several other significant infrastructure projects, including the dualization of the Santasi-Ahiakwanta Road, the Adenta-Dodowa Road, the Kasoa-Winneba Road, and the Takoradi-Agona Junction Road. These projects, funded by the Government of Ghana and the African Development Bank, are designed to improve travel times and reduce vehicle operating costs.\u201d
