The Deputy Education Minister, Rev. Ntim Fordjour, has said that government is committed to fulfilling all of its obligations towards the West African Examination Council (WAEC).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that government\u2019s indebtedness to the Council will also be settled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Deputy Minister, during a visit to one of the WASSCE centers at the Labone Senior High School expressed content with preparations for the examination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minister went through the examination halls taking brief moments to interact with some candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortly after the Minister\u2019s visit to some exam halls, the exam was over. And the students were discharged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was the first core subject the students had taken for this year\u2019s WASSCE after their practicals and the excitement and joy of contentment was evident on their faces. Some of the students we interacted with were overjoyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t anxious at all. It was easy. I studied so it wasn\u2019t difficult. In fact, I scattered the paper,\u201d with a giggle, Charlotte, a final year student and a candidate narrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another, Justice, a candidate also corroborated her colleague\u2019s sentiment. \u2018\u2018It was very easy and I expect all my colleagues to also get it. If you study, you will get all,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But beyond this excitement lies government\u2019s indebtedness to the West African Examination Council which has the tendency to mar the post examination period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Head of WAEC, Dr Rosemond Wilson said, \u2018\u2018Currently with the WASSCE, government has paid money for the pre-exam activities and the conduct of the exam, and we believe by the time we complete this exam, the rest of the monies will also be given for the post examination activities\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the Deputy Minister of Education who acknowledged the concerns assured that all obligations towards WAEC will be met in due course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGovernment will fulfill all obligations it has towards WAEC. This will be settled in a way that will resource them to be able to keep supporting government. They have been a very reliable partner; they\u2019ve been creditable in all the discharge of their mandate and therefore we are also going to strengthen our commitment. From time to time, you hear some level of indebtedness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe make payments time and again. So, it\u2019s not a problem,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minister, who expressed satisfaction after assessing the progress of the exam at the school, further reaffirmed government\u2019s commitment to Free Senior High School policy.
Forty-six thousand, six hundred and eleven (46,611) candidates are sitting for this year\u2019s WASSCE examination at 1,000 centres.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
