We didn\u2019t sack people to go and die; we only had to take care of things\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Ampomah mentioned that. the delayed shipment has now arrived, and the two containers of consumables have allowed the hospital to resume outpatient dialysis services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNow that the consumables have arrived, we\u2019ve resumed outpatient services,\u201d he confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Addressing the rising number of kidney cases, Dr. Ampomah stressed the urgency of the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted that, the primary causes of kidney failure are uncontrolled diabetes and hypertension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, Korle Bu has about 300 kidney patients on dialysis, with only 10 dialysis machines available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Ampomah acknowledged the financial burden on patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMost of the patients on dialysis are unable to afford the charges,\u201d he noted, adding that some kidney cases are managed through dietary changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also expressed concern about the impact of discontinuing dialysis services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf we decide to stop the dialysis, people will die, but we don\u2019t want to see that,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the challenges, Dr. Ampomah urged the public to be understanding of the hospital\u2019s efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cKorle Bu is doing a lot of hard work, so pardon us for a few blunders. The doctors are passionate about the patients, so it\u2019s not good to always lash at them,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Ampomah apologized to the patients affected by the temporary shutdown, adding that the hospital never intended to put lives at risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe apologize to the patients; it\u2019s not that we wanted them to die,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The closure, which occurred unexpectedly, left many patients uncertain about their ongoing treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hospital officials cited routine maintenance as the reason for the closure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chief Executive Officer of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah, has clarified the circumstances surrounding the temporary shutdown of the hospital\u2019s renal unit.
