{"id":14621,"date":"2025-06-29T15:27:33","date_gmt":"2025-06-29T15:27:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sbmediaonline.com\/?p=14621"},"modified":"2025-06-29T15:27:33","modified_gmt":"2025-06-29T15:27:33","slug":"nadef-reports-surge-in-hypertension-and-diabetes-in-ahafo-mining-communities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sbmediaonline.com\/?p=14621","title":{"rendered":"NADeF Reports Surge in Hypertension and Diabetes in Ahafo Mining Communities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"568\" height=\"316\" src=\"https:\/\/uwordpressmedia.blob.core.windows.net\/uwordpressmedia01\/2025\/06\/Screenshot-2025-06-29-102700.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14622\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uwordpressmedia.blob.core.windows.net\/uwordpressmedia01\/2025\/06\/Screenshot-2025-06-29-102700.png 568w, https:\/\/uwordpressmedia.blob.core.windows.net\/uwordpressmedia01\/2025\/06\/Screenshot-2025-06-29-102700-300x167.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 568px) 100vw, 568px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A recent free medical screening exercise conducted in three mining communities within the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region has revealed a worrying rise in cases of hypertension and diabetes.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The exercise, organized by the Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF) in collaboration with the Gold Coast Medical Foundation, covered residents of Ntotroso, Gyedu, and Womahinso.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Out of over 400 people screened for various health conditions\u2014including hypertension, diabetes, malaria, eye and dental issues, nutrition, and psychological wellness\u2014hypertension and diabetes emerged as the most prevalent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking to Adom News, Co-Founder of the Gold Coast Medical Foundation, Dr. Kwaku Boakye, expressed concern over the increasing number of cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While medications were provided to affected individuals, he urged residents to take their health seriously by regularly visiting nearby health facilities for check-ups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEven though we\u2019ve given medication, people need to understand that routine medical reviews are critical to safeguarding their health,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Executive Secretary of NADeF, Elizabeth Opoku-Darko, explained that the initiative forms part of Newmont Gold Ghana\u2019s commitment to improving the well-being of communities within its operational areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHealth is wealth. That\u2019s why we partnered with the Gold Coast Medical Foundation to support this screening.
