The Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced an emergency shutdown of the Weija Water Plant, resulting in a temporary disruption in water supply to several parts of western Accra today, July 2, 2025.
In a statement, the company said the shutdown is to facilitate urgent repair works on major pipelines that supply water to affected communities.
Areas impacted include Korle-Bu, Dansoman, Mamprobi, parts of Weija, Gbawe, Mallam, Anyaa, Kwashieman, Ablekuma, Darkuman, Kaneshie, Tesano, Odorkor, Sowutuom, Lapaz, parts of Achimota, North Industrial Area, and surrounding localities.
GWL explained that the shutdown, which began at 10:00 a.m. and is expected to end by 5:00 p.m., was necessary to address critical faults on the pipeline network and to ensure long-term service reliability.
“Our engineers are on site working hard to ensure that the work is completed on schedule,” the statement noted.
The company apologised for the inconvenience caused and assured customers that water supply will resume promptly once the repairs are completed.
Residents and businesses in affected areas are being advised to make alternative arrangements for water during the period of interruption.
