Former Hearts of Oak midfielder, Gladson Awako has opened up on how he was forced to leave the club due to his leadership.
The former Berekum Chelsea attacker joined the Phobian Club in 2021 from Great Olympics.
However, Awako shockingly parted ways with the club in September 2023 after winning the Premier League title and two FA Cup trophies.
Speaking to Asempa FM, the U-20 World Cup winner explained that internal issues at the club, including his growing influence, contributed to his exit.
“Hearts of Oak and Olympics are two different clubs. One of the clubs is political and the other is not. It got to a time they thought I was becoming too powerful so they had to get rid of me but there was no problem with me,” he recounted.
He admitted he became powerful at the club due to the leadership role granted him by former coach Matic.
“The leadership roles I got from the coach gave me power and they felt if they should allow me, it wouldn’t help most of them so they got rid of me,” he added.
Gladson Awako has made a return to Great Olympics and is aiming to steer the side back to the topflight.
