Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) chairman, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe beleives that goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has demonstrated to be Black Stars’ first-choice goalkeeper.
The 32-year-old earned his first call-up to the senior national team ahead of the Matchday five and six games of the 2026 World Cup qualifier against Chad and Madagascar.
Asare kept the post against Chad and Madagascar and kept a clean sheet in all the games.
Dr Nyaho Tamakloe speaking to Graphic Sports commended Asare for his performances and insisted he fit to be the first choice of the senior national team.
“It was a good decision using Benjamin Asare because he (the coach) has tried all the other goalkeepers, and Asare was able to demonstrate clearly that he is fit for the job,” he said.
Dr Nyaho Tamakloe also added that Asare’s performance has proven there is quality in the local league.
“He’s made a case for the local players, but we can never be home and dry as far as this competition is concerned until local players are featured prominently.”
Meanwhile, Otto Addo speaking after the game however confirmed that Asare is already the first-choice goalkeeper following his heroic performances.
“I think the next game is in June, and he is already the number one. We made that decision for him. He trained very well. We have a good atmosphere where the keepers are pushing each other,” Addo asserted.
The Hearts of Oak goalkeeper’s outstanding performances against Chad and Madagascar have strengthened his case to become Ghana’s first-choice goalkeeper moving forward.
The Black Stars, who sit top of Group I with 15 points will now shift their focus to their upcoming qualifiers, where they will face Chad away before hosting Mali in Matchday 7 and 8 of the campaign.
