Apiatse Phase Three Residents Protest, Petition Government Over Delayed Reconstruction

Bogoso, Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality – A group of frustrated residents from Apiatse Phase Three, whose homes have not yet been rebuilt, took to the streets today to demonstrate against the government’s slow pace of reconstruction. The protest follows a devastating explosion that occurred almost two years ago, prompting government promises to rebuild the community in phases.

With Phase One and Two nearing completion, the focus has shifted to Phase Three, where 68 people remain homeless, awaiting their turn. A 71-year-old protester, who preferred not to be named, expressed her desperation: “We’ve been patient for far too long. We need our homes rebuilt now.”

The demonstrators submitted a petition to the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Assembly, calling for immediate action. Mr. Joseph Abu, Secretary of the Apiatse Phase Three Reconstruction Committee, emphasized the urgency: “The explosion happened once, not in phases. Why is the government dividing us into phases? We demand a unified approach to rebuilding our community.”

Receiving the petition on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Dr. Isaac Dasmani, Municipal Coordinating Director Mr. Emmanuel Gyan assured the protesters that their concerns would be addressed. “I receive this petition in good faith and promise to forward it to the relevant authorities, including the Western Regional Minister and the President,” he said.

The protesters vowed to continue their demonstration until they receive a favorable response from the government. The situation remains unresolved, with the community eagerly awaiting a resolution to their housing crisis.
