Former Black Stars striker, Augustine Ahinful has suggested the need for a National Management Board instead of Management Committees for the various national teams.
His remarks follow after the Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced a newly constituted Management Committee for the Black Stars following the dissolution of the Mark Addo-led committee after the senior national team failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
Speaking on Accra-based Sporty FM, Ahinful questioned the relevance of the Management Committees for the various national teams.
He argued that, instead of the Management Committees, there should rather be a National Management Board which will involve other personalities who will make decisions.
“I have served on a Management Committee before and I feel it will be better to have a National Management Board. That should not have only football people who will always come on board and look at the affairs of the various national teams we have,” Ahinful said.
“Assuming we have 10 people on the National Management Board and the Black Stars will be engaged in a game and two people are delegated to take charge of that game, it will be fine because there are employees also at the GFA who can also work.
“There are a lot of people serving on committees that are not doing anything. I have served on a committee and it happened that some members of the committee did not even know the age bracket of the players who were invited and I had to inform the committee that these players who have been invited cannot play for the Black Satellites.
“So if these management committees are that important, they will be checking and advising the technical team of the national teams,” he added.
The newly formed Management Committee for the Black Stars include Dr. Randy Abbey, an Executive Council member of the GFA. In addition to chairing the Committee, Dr Abbey shall lead engagement with government and other stakeholders.
Stephen Appiah, a former Captain of the Black Stars, will serve as Vice-Chairman, supporting Dr. Abbey, while also focusing on Player Relations.
Other members of the Committee include Samuel Aboabire, Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Football Association and an Executive Council member of the GFA and Moses Armah, President of Medeama Sporting Club. Both Aboabire and Armah shall be responsible for operations and matchday activities while ensuring that the interests of sponsors, partners and other collaborators are well taken care of. Richard Nsenkyire, President of FC Samartex 1996 is a member responsible for special duties.
