President John Mahama, on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, officially launched his administration’s flagship 24-hour economy policy, describing it as a symbol of hope, productivity, and inclusive growth.
Speaking at the launch event, the President said the policy—initially introduced during the 2024 election campaign—has moved from a slogan to a full-fledged national development strategy.
“Let me be clear: the 24+ Agenda is not just about extending working hours. It is about unleashing productivity, expanding opportunities, and accelerating exports through well-structured and inclusive interventions,” he said.
Mr Mahama stressed that the goal is to shift Ghana’s economy from one that “sleeps” to one that works around the clock, adding that his government is committed to empowering the private sector to thrive under this new direction.
“We have moved from slogan to strategy. In 2024, the idea of a 24-hour economy captured national attention. It became a slogan of hope—a symbol that change was necessary and possible,” he noted.
He said the implementation of the policy marks the beginning of a massive national mobilisation to boost employment, enhance productivity, and improve the overall business climate.
As part of the strategy, several targeted programmes will be rolled out, including:
- Grow-24: To support agribusiness development.
- Make-24: To strengthen the manufacturing sector.
- Build-24: To stimulate the construction industry and create jobs.
- Show-24: To promote tourism and creative arts.
- Connect: To improve road infrastructure and mobility across the country.
Mr Mahama added that the policy is designed to provide comfort and incentives for businesses and investors to operate beyond the traditional work schedule.
He expressed optimism that the initiative would help build a robust and resilient economy—one that will outlive his administration and benefit future generations.
“All challenges associated with this policy will be confronted head-on,” he assured.
