Head Coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, is bracing for a tough challenge as Ghana prepares to face Sudan in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers next month.

Following a narrow 1-0 defeat to Angola in their opening match at the Baba Yara Stadium, Ghana hoped to secure their first win of the qualifiers against Niger. Although Alidu Seidu’s deflected shot put Ghana ahead in the 44th minute, Niger equalized through Oumar Sako in the 80th minute, ending the game in a 1-1 draw at the Stade Municipal de Berkane.

Reflecting on the upcoming fixtures, Addo acknowledged the difficulties that lie ahead: “Playing Sudan next will be difficult again. I knew from the start, it’s just some little margins, little details which can decide. This will be again, for us it will be a crucial match. We have to win, there is no way around it, and we have to win. If we want to have the chance to play better after, we have to win. We are under pressure, this is for sure and we have to do better.”

Currently sitting third in Group F, the Black Stars will face Sudan in a crucial doubleheader in October. The matches are vital for Ghana’s hopes of advancing in the qualifiers and improving their standing in the group.
